1 Sam 9:1-27
As we saw yesterday, the people of Israel asked for a king, and God told Samuel to go ahead and give them one. Today we were introduced to Saul, the son of Kish from Benjamin tribe.
Saul was described as very goodly, from shoulder up, he was taller than any one in Israel. His father just lost his assess and requested Saul and his servant to go look for them. Hardly did they know as we read later that everything was being orchestrated by God, to bring about his meeting with Samuel.
After searching for three days they couldn’t find the assess and were almost giving up and planning to return less Kish became worried about them rather than the animals. The servant however suggested to Saul that they should see a man of God in the city whose prophecy always come to pass, so that he could show them which way to go.
This was how they were led to Samuel who was about to go to bless a sacrifice and have a meal. God had told him the day before that at the same time tomorrow he would meet with Saul who would be made the captain of Israel to deliver them from the Philistines. When he met Saul and the servant he told them to sit with him at meal and sleep over that same day. He also told them immediately that the assess they were looking for had been found.
So, they ate with Samuel that day and slept over that day. Samuel communed with Saul, and requested he sent his servant ahead so that he could further discuss with him. Samuel definitely was about to reveal to Saul that he would be king, and also about to let him know what would be required of him. We continue to see what happens next tomorrow.
Some verses to remember
Vs 15-16: Now the LORD had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying, tomorrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.
