1 Sam 11:1-15
The way God works is very miraculous and surprising. Yesterday, we learnt some people despised Saul wondering if he could save Israel. Today, God orchestrated events to confirm Saul to the people of Israel as king.
The men of Jabesh Gilead had just been threatened by Nahash the Ammonite and his army, who said before he could receive their pledge of allegiance, he would pluck out the right eyes of all the men. As a last resort the people of Jabesh Gilead requested help from the whole of Israel.
When Saul heard about the threat, the Spirit of God came upon him, he broke the yoke of an oxen and sent it to all the coasts of Israel, announcing that whosoever does not come to assist Jabesh Gilead at the word of Saul and Samuel would have his oxen destroyed as such. God cause all the people to respond favourably to Saul, and up to three hundred thousand people were gathered.
Eventually, they went to war against the Ammonites adn defeated them and had them scattered. On that day, the Lord wrought a great victory and salvation for Israel to the extent that some were calling for the heads of those who were initially not in suppport of Saul. However, Samuel said none should be king, but everyone one went to Gilgal and made Saul king again, and offered sacrifices unto God.
Are there people doubting your God-given abilities and authority? Do not worry about them for God is able to ochestrate events that would bring your gifts, talents and his authority upon you to fore. He would magnify you before people when you trust in Him and His word.
Some verses to remember
Vs 7: And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
Vs 15: And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
